Welcome to the Indiana University Global Mobility Management Page

Organizations typically adopted Mobile Device Management (MDM) to help enable mobile users. As requirements broadened to more applications and access to more sources of content, MDM evolved into a broader set of technologies, which is now commonly referred to as Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM).

Enterprise mobility management (EMM) suites consist of policy and configuration management tools and a management overlay for applications and content intended for mobile devices based on smartphone platforms. They are an evolution from previous-generation mobile device management (MDM) products that lacked application and content management. IT organizations and service providers use EMM suites to deliver IT support to mobile end users and to maintain security policies.

EMM suites provide the following core functions:
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) Features - these include device level management features such as: remote configuration; inventory; OS configuration management; remote wipe; selective wipe; remote locking; password enforcement/reset; disabling WiFi, cameras, Bluetooth, microphone functionality; as well as device level analytics.
  • Mobile Security Features - such as encryption of the device storage, SD cards, emails and folders; two-factor authentication; single sign-on; geofencing; data loss prevention; anti-malware detection; jailbreak/rooting detection; application whitelisting/blacklisting, and more.
  • Mobile Application Management (MAM) Features - such as containerization; app wrapping; enterprise app store management; blocking of copy/paste between apps or to/from emails; remote app updating, and app usage analytics.
  • Mobile Content Management (MCM) Features - such as secure email, calendar, and contacts; Microsoft SharePoint integration; document management software integration, and more.

UITS Leveraged Services offers two EMM solutions to help departments manage their mobile devices to ensure compliance with existing IU IT security policies, such as IU IT-12.1 and IT-28.
